Now, you’ve handed in your PQQ or tender and got through to your interview stage. How about a little bit of an extra helping hand with your power point presentation, a mini site or even a promotional film? Firstly, some advice.

What makes a great website or powerpoint presentation?

If your PowerPoint slides are full of text that your audience can read for themselves, they don’t work. The audience reads and ignores the presenter. If your slides contain only one main ‘focus’ image, but don’t help the audience understand your complex ideas, they don’t work.

Impressive PowerPoint slides look good. That can be important, but it isn’t enough. Slides that work, that is, PowerPoint slides that help you get your message across should be visual.

Use charts, diagrams, pictures and animation to create effective PowerPoint slides. It should provide valuable, timely information, instead of swamping you with data. The information must be succinct, and beautifully organised.

Now your mini site

Companies with great websites share what they have learnt with their users. Which, you’ll note, is what we’re doing right now as you read this. Give something of yourself, talk one-to-one, and you’ll get something back. Customise the content to match users’ preferences. Let them filter out what they don’t need so they can navigate quickly to what is relevant to them. Make it easy to read and pleasing to look at. Use flashy graphics sparingly. Be responsive. Be interactive. Create dialogue and you won’t collect dust. If your website is engaging and memorable, if it reflects the culture and values of your organisation, people will be drawn to it, stay longer, and want to know more.
